A live read-out of the show you are running — the take, every lot as it closes, the buyers, the chat and the room — written down while it happens. It installs with no access to any website, and reads nothing anywhere until you grant Chrome page access yourself.

The toolbar button
The button is the panel’s switch: one click opens it, the next closes it. There is nothing else to learn.

- The badge carries what is still waiting to sync, and whether this browser is connected
- Connect and Start recording are in the panel; Sync now sits on the local queue in Options
The part of the show you missed
Open the panel two hours into a show and it fills with the whole show, not the last hour of it.
- A live show page only ever holds its last few dozen settled lots; the show’s own sold list holds the rest
- Read as you, from the tab you already have open, and read-only — it has its own switch in Options
- Every lot is keyed on Whatnot’s own id, so a sale already recorded is recognised, never counted twice
- It leaves the last three minutes alone, because the live reader owns those
Sync that survives a bad room
Everything it records is written locally first, so a dropped connection mid-show costs you nothing.

- Flushes the moment an event is queued, and again every five minutes
- The toolbar badge shows what is still queued
- Its device token rotates on its own before it expires
What it asks for, and when
It ships with no access to any site at all. Page reading is a separate, optional permission you grant yourself, and can take back the same way.
- At install it holds four permissions, none of which touch a website: local storage, the side panel, a background alarm, and the ability to run its own reader once you allow it.
- Turning page reading on asks Chrome for access to all sites, not just Whatnot — the reader is registered when you switch it on rather than pinned to one host at build time, and Chrome’s prompt says so plainly. It is asked for on your click, never at install.
- Chrome’s prompt is the only gate. The capture surfaces ship switched on, so granting page access starts both of them rather than asking again per surface — each has its own switch in Options if you want one off.
- Revoke it in Chrome and the reader is removed outright, not left declared and idle. It only ever reads a page you already have open.
- It talks to exactly one server — your Whatnot Metrics workspace. There is no remote code; everything runs from the package Chrome installed.
What it will not do, ever
Wherever it is allowed to read, it is strictly read-only: it changes nothing on Whatnot, ever. Part of that is enforced rather than promised — the build refuses to package it if the manifest grows an install-time host permission or a static content script, so page access can only ever be the grant you gave and can take back.
- It never clicks, types, bids, posts, messages or enters a giveaway, and dispatches no synthetic events.
- It never opens a tab, follows a link, or navigates anywhere on its own.
- The only things it asks whatnot.com for are the sold list and the status of a show you have open, read the way the page reads them. It writes nothing there, and never sees your Whatnot password.
- It opens no conversation and reads no message body, no identity from another seller’s show, and no page you did not open yourself.
- It keeps no browsing history and no analytics about the sites you visit.
Show tracking, once you grant page access
Until then it is inert — there is no reader on any page. Once granted, a show you have open in a tab gets written down. It is a short list, and it is the whole list, and you can switch it off in Options.

Winners and chat are the part worth being plain about, because they are other people’s handles and we keep them. A winner’s handle is stored against the lot it won, and it is what the buyer views are built from — who your repeat buyers are, and which of a seller’s buyers already buy from you. Public chat is stored with the handle that posted it. Both are read from the page as any viewer sees it, both belong to the workspace that recorded them and are visible to nobody else, and you can switch the reader off in Options at any time.
